The District 99 Education Foundation has created a student awards program to honor Dr. Mark McDonald, who died suddenly in 2022. As his former colleagues know, Dr. McDonald's entire career was dedicated to students' achievements, opportunities, and well-being. He was a beloved Principal at Downers Grove South High for five years, followed by eight successful years as Community High School District 99 Superintendent until his retirement in 2016. Please help support Dr. McDonald's legacy.
Dr. McDonald's teaching career began at Mooseheart, a renowned home for children in need, where he taught history and coached football and wrestling. He never stopped caring for student athletes and others who needed help. Students were always first on his educational agenda throughout his career.
The Foundation will fund a $500 award for an athlete in each sports season at DGS and DGN; fall, winter, and spring. The number of awards will depend on the amount of funds raised. The award will be given to student athletes in need who may not have been star performers and did not receive other recognition but displayed dedication and good citizenship in their years in the District.
To provide dollars for this worthy award, we are reaching out to people like you. We know he would be pleased that his legacy will continue to help students who need a boost. Please consider a generous gift to this fund. Please click to donate: Mark McDonald Fund
